The Lions are asking the NFL to review the rule that took away an apparent touchdown catch by WR Calvin Johnson. But maybe Detroit fans are bonding over the controversy: They bought every ticket for Sunday's game against the Eagles.

Maybe there’s a connection between the Detroit Lions announcing a sellout for their game Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles and team vice-chairman Bill Ford asking the league to look one more time at that controversial non-touchdown by Calvin Johnson.

There just might be a new fervor building in Detroit.

The Lions, understandably, are unwilling to forgive and forget after an apparent touchdown catch by Johnson last Sunday was taken away by officials, costing the Lions a victory over the Chicago Bears.

”It was a touchdown,” Ford told the Detroit Free Press. “You saw it, I saw it.”

Everyone saw it. Ford said he spoke with NFL officials this week about reviewing the rule regarding a touchdown catch in the end zone. On the play in question, Johnson clearly had control of the ball and had both feet inbounds before his hand touched the ground and the ball squirted away.

”The rule is more cryptic than the Dead Sea scrolls,” Ford said in a radio interview.

With Ford Field brimming to capacity with 65,000 fans, you can bet there will be plenty of eyes watching every call closely.
