Indianapolis Colts newly-signed linebacker Ernie Sims is going to be sidelined for two weeks or longer after undergoing an appendectomy on Sunday. The injury is a setback for the Colts' defense considering that Sims is an athletic, hard-hitting veteran linebacker

The Colts signed Sims last week and he was in the running for an immediate starting role at outside linebacker.

Sims has previous stints with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Detroit Lions.

He played collegiately at Florida State.

Meanwhile, linebacker Kavell Conner returned to practice today after dislocating his pinkie finger a few days ago.

Conner will take over Sims' repetitions at outside linebacker.
