Cedric Benson out of jail

Benson served five days of a 20-day sentence for misdemeanor assault, released early for good behavior. According to the Associated Press, Benson was released after spending part of his jail time mopping floors and assisting paint crews to earn time off from jail.

The jail time stems from Benson's no contest plea to a pair of misdemeanor assault charges where he was arrested a year ago for punching a man at a bar. Then, he was arrested in July for beating up a former roommate. In that case, he avoided punishment from the law as long as he remains out of trouble for a year.

It's unclear if NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is going to punish Benson under the NFL personal-conduct policy.
