Patriots ink Ninkovich to an extension

The New England Patriots have signed starting linebacker Rob Ninkovich to a two-year, $4 million contract extension, a league source confirmed. Ninkovich's deal includes a $2 million signing bonus and a $720,000 base salary this season as well as $900,000 base salaries in 2012 and 2013.

The contract includes $100,000 workout bonuses over the next two seasons and a $25,000 workout bonus and $200,000 in incentives this year.

A former Purdue player, Ninkovich recorded 61 tackles, four sacks and two interceptions last season.
