Dunta Robinson fined $40,000

The NFL has fined Atlanta Falcons cornerback $40,000 for his hit Sunday night on Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin. NFL vice president of football operations Merton Hanks also warned Robinson in a letter that future rule violations could result in a suspension or larger fines.

Robinson was fined under the NFL rule that states, "It is a foul if a player initiates unnecessary contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture." Robinson lowered his head and hit Maclin in the head and neck area.

A repeat offender having been fined $25,000 last year for unnecessary roughness, Robinson was told by Hanks in the letter:"Future offenses will result in an escalation of fines up to and including suspension."
