Browns C Alex Mack has appendectomy

Cleveland Browns Pro Bowl center Alex Mack underwent a successful appendectomy Monday, coach Pat Shurmur announced. If Mack is sidelined, the Browns could go with John Greco or Steve Vallos at center

"Alex Mack came in with symptoms that look like appendicitis and it was evaluated and it appears like he's going to have his appendix out here, very soon, this afternoon," Shurmur said in remarks distributed by the team. "That just happened. He came in this morning with soreness or the tenderness that would point to that and they evaluated him and he's going to have to have it out. We'll see how that goes. I wouldn't want to speculate on time until after he has his surgery so we'll find out."

Meanwhile, cornerback Joe Haden and wide receiver Josh Cribbs have sprained knees. Neither is slated to have surgery.

"We'll just have to see as we move forward how significant it is," Shurmur said of Haden. "At this point, I don't know anything. There's a chance he may miss some time, but I don't know that yet."
