There have been accusations about whether he sat out a game not with strep throat, but instead because of frustration over slow contract talks, along with denials from the Hillis camp and Browns executives.
Now, Hillis returns to action this Sunday from a hamstring injury and hopes to avoid any more controversies.
"I'd really like to not talk about a contract the rest of the year," Hillis told Cleveland reporters. "I think there's no sense in it. It's in the past. I gotta play. That's the bottom line.
"You just take this approach and move forward. I'm not going to be a distraction. I'm gonna help this team win as much as I possibly can and do what I can."
Hillis is in his second season with the Browns. He was drafted by the Broncos in 2008 out of Arkansas.
