CB Phillip Buchanon headed to injured reserve

The Washington Redskins are designatingcornerback Phillip Buchanon on injured reserve due to knee and neck injuries,ending his season. Buchanon announced the status change on Facebook today. "I will be placed on IR today so my season would be over & what a crazy year," Buchanon wrote. The Redskins are likely to promote rookie cornerback Brandyn Thompson from the practice squad to the active roster

Thompson is a seventh-round draft pick from Boise State.

Buchanon served a four-game suspension for violating the NFL substance-abuse drug policy earlier this fall, playing in one game this season for the Redskins.

Buchanon is a former University of Miami first-round draft pick who has played for the Oakland Raiders, Houston Texans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Detroit Lions.
