Ndamukong Suh suspended for two games

Detroit Lions star defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has been suspended without pay for two games, the NFL announced. Suh can appeal within three business days. If the suspension holds, he'll lose $164,000 in lost pay.

Suh stomped on Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Evan Dietrich-Smith during a flagrant episode on Thanksgiving that has made the Lions standout a controversial figure in league circles.

Suh also bounced Dietrich-Smith's head on the ground repeatedly. Here's the NFL's full statement:

"NFL Vice President of Football Operations Merton Hanks notified Ndamukong Suh today that he has been suspended without pay for the Lions' next two games for his unsportsmanlike conduct in the Lions-Packers game on Thanksgiving Day. It was Suh's fifth violation of on-field rules in the past two seasons that has resulted in league discipline. Suh may not practice or be at the team practice facility for any other activities during the two-game suspension. He will be reinstated on December 12. Under the CBA, the suspension may be appealed within three business days. If appealed, an expedited hearing and decision would take place this week in advance of this weekend's games."

Suh is likely to be fined $25,000 by the Lions.

Under NFL rules, the Lions will be fined $50,000 by the league due to an excess of $100,000 in fines this season, including $42,500 for Suh.

Suh isn't allowed to practice or participate in team activities during his punishment.
