Houston Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips is in stable condition after undergoing surgery on his kidney and gallbladder. Phillips is on medical leave for the next two games against the Carolina Panthers and the Indianapolis Colts.

The Texans released the following statement: “Wade Phillips has completed the surgery on his kidney and gallbladder. He is in stable condition. In order to respect his privacy, the family has requested there be no further information given at this time.”

Phillips has engineered a dramatic turnaround of the Texans' top-ranked defense.
