The New England Patriots are expected to hire St. Louis Rams offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels as an addition to their offensive coaching staff. McDaniels is expected to be hired prior to the team's AFC divisional playoff game, according to ESPN.

The Patriots can have McDaniels become the offensive coordinator going forward as offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien is leaving to coach at Penn State.

O'Brien is remaining in place until the season is over.

For McDaniels, this completes an odyssey from being fired as the Denver Broncos' head coach and resurfacing as the Rams' offensive coordinator and then heading back to the Patriots where he was previously the offensive coordinator.
