Jaguars to sign WR Lee Evans

The Jacksonville Jaguars are going to sign veteran wide receiver Lee Evans to a one-year contract on Monday, a league source confirmed. The former Buffalo Bills first-round draft pick from Wisconsin is entering his ninth NFL season. Evans, 31, has caught 381 career passes for 6,008 yards and 43 touchdowns. Two seasons ago, Evans caught 37 passes for 578 yards and four touchdowns.

Evans caught 63 passes for 1,017 yards and three touchdowns four seasons ago. He caught a career-high 82 passes for 1,292 yards and eight touchdowns in 2006. Evans played for the Baltimore Ravens last season, but his production was limited due to a lingering ankle injury.

Evans dropped a potential game-winning touchdown pass in the AFC championship game against the New England Patriots. Before being released, Evans was due a $3.275 million base salary and carried a $5.607 million salary-cap figure. The Ravens would have had to pay him a $1 million roster bonus on March 18.

He caught only four passes for 74 yards and no touchdowns during the regular season after being acquired via a trade from the Bills in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick.
