Giants sign Kiwanuka to an extension

New York Giants defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka has signed a three-year, $21.75 million contract extension, according to a league source. The contract includes an $8.5 million signing bonus with $10.95 million in total guaranteed money. His base salaries of $950,000 and $2.95 million over the next two seasons are fully guaranteed for skill, injury and salary cap.

In 2014, his base salary goes up to $4.375 million. In 2015, the final year of the deal, his base salary rises to $4.775 million.

Those salaries aren't guaranteed. The deal includes $1.5 million in incentives in 2012 based on sacks and playing time.

There's also a $1 million escalator clause triggered by Kiwanuka's sacks.

The deal has annual $50,000 workout bonuses. The 6-foot-5, 267-pounder had 84 tackles and 3 1/2 sacks last season. For his career, the former Boston College standout has 306 tackles, 27 sacks, three interceptions and eight forced fumbles.
