The New York Giants and veteran defensive end Osi Umenyiora finally achieved a compromise last week, breaking their contractual stalemate after years of acrimony. Umenyiora fired respected agent Tony Agnone and operated as his own negotiator for a deal that puts $6 million in his pocket this season.

The $7 million deal is a one-year extension that essentially operates as a one-year arrangement for this season even though he's under contract through the 2013 season. In 2013, he's due a $1 million base salary. However, it's a voidable year and Umenyiora is expected to be allowed to become a free agent and not be designated as the Giants' franchise player.

Umenyiora is due a $2.5 million base salary this year, a renegotiated $2 million signing bonus, a $250,000 reporting bonus, a $500,000 roster bonus to be paid $31,250 per game that he's on the 53-man roster, and a $750,000 roster bonus paid out $46,875 per game that he's active.

Umenyiora was previously due a $4.725 million salary-cap figure with a $3.975 million base salary for 2012.
