Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jerome Simpson is suspended for the first three games of the season and also has been fined an additional game check, the NFL announced. He violated the NFL substance-abuse policy. His one-year deal is worth $2 million

The deal includes an $800,000 base salary, $950,000 roster bonus and a $250,000 workout bonus.

Simpson was sentenced to 15 days in jail and assigned to three years probation in his plea agreement with Kentucky prosecutors after pleaded guilty to a felony drug charge involving two pounds of marijuana being shipped to his home.

Initially indicted on marijuana trafficking, the case was reduced to prohibited act relating to controlled substances. He was given 200 hours of community service, fined $7,500 and ordered to undergo drug testing.

“I take full responsibility for my actions,” Simpson said in court. Simpson caught 53 passes for 758 yards and four touchdowns last season.
