Steelers signing Ryan Baker

The Pittsburgh Steelers are signing former LSU outside linebacker Ryan Baker following a tryout today that included former New England Patriots outside linebacker Markell Carter, according to a league source. The Steelers cut linebacker Brandon Lindsey, an undrafted rookie from the University of Pittsburgh. Baker is an undrafted rookie free agent who was previously with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Baker is a 5-foot-11, 232-pounder with 4.7 speed who earned second-team all-conference honors as a senior.

He recorded 58 tackles, 3 1/2 for losses and 1 1/2 sacks. The two-year starter had 87 tackles as a junior with 11 tackles for losses and seven sacks.

Carter was released by the Patriots this spring.

Carter is a former Patriots sixth-round draft pick who spent last season on the practice squad. At Central Arkansas, the 6-foot-4, 252-pounder registered 143 career tackles and 16 1/2 sacks.
