Former Kansas City Chiefs running back Jackie Battle is joining the San Diego Chargers on a one-year contract, and could provide a replacement to Mike Tolbert. Tolbert signed a $10 million contract with the Carolina Panthers this offseason. Battle, 28, is a 6-foot-2, 238-pound power back who rushed for a career-high 597 yards and two touchdowns last season while averaging four yards per carry.

He also caught nine passes for 68 yards.

Battle played with Chargers fullback Le'Ron McClain in Kansas City.

Battle has rushed for 715 career yards and four touchdowns on 190 carries. The Chargers also released rookie free agent fullback Mohamed Marah.
