Steve Smith to donates to shooting victims

Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith has pledged a $100,000 donation to survivors of the movie theater massacre in Aurora, Colo. The money is intended to help pay for extensive medical bills. The money will be distributed through the city of Aurora to those affected by the shooting.

“As a father and husband I cannot imagine the pain and suffering the victims are going through,” Smith said. “My family’s hearts and prayers are extended to theirs, and I hope this contribution might assist in paying some of the medical bills that will help allow these families to move forward in this tragic circumstance."

Twelve people were killed and 58 injured at a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises.

James Holmes, 24, was arrested and charged in the mass shooting.

"Hopefully this helps a little bit," Smith said. "From one NFL city to another, God bless."
