Otah has battled knee injuries and was traded to New York for a conditional draft pick.
Now, the former Panthers starter heads back to Carolina.
"Jeff didn't fulfill the terms of the trade, so he's en route to Carolina and he'll remain with the Panthers," Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said. "We had seven days, and we took the seven days."
The Panthers aren't expected to hold onto Otah and may either cut him or will look to trade him to another team.
