Falcons Brent Grimes out for the Season

The Atlanta Falcons will be placing franchise cornerback Brent Grimes on injured reserve due to a torn Achilles tendon, coach Mike Smith announced today. Grimes left the Falcons' 40-24 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. Grimes was a Pro Bowl alternate two seasons ago. The Falcons will go with Asante Samuel opposite Dunta Robinson.

Before the season, Grimes signed his $10.6 million franchise tender.

It's a huge loss for the Falcons since Grimes is one of the most technically sound cornerbacks in the league.

Grimes recorded five interceptions in 2009 and six more in 2010 with one interception in 2011 as he dealt with a knee injury.
