Lions release DE Lions Kyle Vanden Bosch

The Detroit Lions told defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch that he will be released.

After recording eight sacks in 2011, Vanden Bosch only mustered 3.5 in 2012. Vanden Bosch had signed a contract last offseason that would have given him a base salary of $7 million for 2013. Clearly, Detroit's decision was likely cap-driven.

The decision was hard for Vanden Bosch's teammate Cliff Avril to hear.

"Heard they just release the one guy that took me under his wing, a great teammate, a great person, my brother KVB...," Avril tweeted.
