Chargers Draft Preview

The Chargers were active this off-season but still have big needs going into the NFL Draft.

San Diego Chargers
2014 draft picks:
1st round (25), 2(57), 3(89), 4(125), 5(165), 6(201), 7 (240)

It was great to see quarterback Phillip Rivers bounce back with a very nice 2013 season for the Chargers. He just had a terrific season under new coach Mike McCoy, leading San Diego to nine wins and into the playoffs.

As we look towards the upcoming draft, the Chargers need to look to address their defense at every level.

Team Needs
1. Cornerback
I look at this roster and see a glaring need here, especially if you are trying to topple the Broncos for AFC West supremacy. The Chargers only have six picks and really need to get two cornerbacks in the draft.

2. Nose Tackle
Cam Thomas left for Pittsburgh so there's a huge hole in the middle of their defensive front. If San Diego goes cornerback with their first pick they can get a solid nose tackle in round two or three.

3. Outside Linebacker
The Chargers need to enhance their pass rush with an outside linebacker that can get after the quarterback.

Kellen Clemens (QB)
Donald Brown (RB)
David Johnson (TE)
Kavell Conner (ILB)
Brandon Ghee (CB)

No Longer with the Team
Charlie Whitehurst (QB)
Le'Ron McClain (FB)
Cam Thomas (NT)
Vaughn Martin (DT)
Derek Cox (CB)
Johnny Patrick (CB)
Derek Cox (CB)
