Dave Biddle had a chance to catch up with a few offensive linemen lately to find out the latest:…
Scouting Report: Adrien Clarke
Full Name: Adrien Clarke School: Ohio State Ht: 6-4 Wt: 355? 40: 5.45 Number: 63 Bio: 2002: Slowed at the beginning of the season with a back injury and had to work his way back into playing shape. Played in 13 games and took over as the starter in game five against Indiana. 2001: Began season as the starting left tackle, but finished the season as the regular left guard. 2000: Started the second half of the Arizona game at left tackle in week two and was a regular from that point forward. Named to several Freshman All-America teams. The Good: Former top line prospect who excelled at a number of positions yet may be eating himself out of a job. Bends his knees, plays with good pad level and leverage, controlling opponents once engaged at the point. Decent footwork and ability to play in space, with some skill when asked to kick out or block on the move. Stays square, rides oncoming rushers from their angle of attack and gets movement from run blocks. The Bad: Lacks explosion, pop and body control. Needs to condition himself properly as he wears down over the course of a game. Reportedly was upwards of 380 pounds last season and as a result was benched. The Skinny: As far back as his freshman season Clarke was effectively starting along several spots on the Buckeye offensive line, destroying opponents and looking like a future star. His play at left tackle in 2000 warranted high grades, as did his performances when kicked inside to guard. Clarke seemingly has a fondness for the training table, which has turned him from a potential top sixty pick into a late second day selection. He needs to do a quick about-face to save his football future.
