Scouting Report: Jason Respert
Ht: 6-3 Wt: 300 40: 5.51 Number: 63
2002: Started five of nine games at left guard.
2001: Started three games at center.
The Good: Tough, interior blocker who gives top effort and gets the job done. Strong, easily sustains blocks or controls defenders once engaged at the point. Has a nice guard build with a thick, powerful lower body. Intelligent, picks up opposing stunts or blitzes and though not nimble, does just enough to get a pad on defenders and take them out of the action. Works very hard until the whistle blows.
The Bad: Not explosive into blocks nor is he effective on the move. Best in confined quarters for a running offense.
The Skinny: A blue collar-type lineman, Respert has been productive the past two seasons in a Volunteer lineup that rotates the front line. He's as mean as they come and has the strength to back it up. If placed in the proper system, one which includes a power running game or zone blocking scheme, Respert will be effective on the next level.
