Scouting Report: Tony Pape

Big, powerful tackle best in confined quarters on the strong side.

Full Name: Tony Pape School: Michigan

Ht: 6-5 Wt: 300 40: 5.34 Number: 77

Bio:

2002: All-Big Ten honorable mention after starting all 13 games.

2001: All-Big Ten Conference honorable mention playing in all 12 games and starting 11 contests.

2000: Played in seven games making debut at right tackle against Rice then later playing left tackle against Indiana.

The Good: Big, powerful tackle best in confined quarters on the strong side. Relatively quick setting off the snap, patient and does not over extend into blocks. Stays square, easily holds the point and uses effective angles or body positioning to wall defenders from the play. Nasty run blocker that moves opponents off the ball. Some skill sliding his feet in space.

The Bad: Works to stay low but stiff, lacks body adjustment and blocking range. Not explosive at the point.

The Skinny: Pape has shown steady progression since his sophomore season when he first caught our eye. A dominant run blocker, his pass protection skills are equally effective and he offers decent upside for the next level.
