Scouting Report: Ben Wilkerson
Full Name: Ben Wilkerson School: LSU Ht: 6-3.5 Wt: 295 40: 5.03 Number: 55 Bio: 2002: Started 10 of 13 games, sitting out the Cotton Bowl with a back injury along with The Citadel and Miami (Ohio) games with combination knee/ankle injuries. 2001: Named Second Team Freshman All-America and earned Freshman All-SEC honors. Played in 11 games with nine starts. The Good: Dominant young blocker that could thrive in a variety of schemes at the next level. Explosive off the snap, jolts opponents at the point and walls defenders from the action, removing them from the play altogether. Blocks with good lean and leverage, effective on the second level or in space. Good footwork with the ability to slide laterally, immediately picks up stunts or blitzes and blocks down well on opponents. The Bad: Stands to get stronger in his upper body and add more bulk. The Skinny: Only on rare occasions do centers go in round one yet Wilkerson is the type of pivot player that can be taken in the initial frame. A productive starter at LSU the previous two seasons, he should immediately contribute in the NFL upon his arrival.
