Sunday Interview Notes: NFL Combine 2004

Glenn Earl / S / Notre Dame

- He will only lift here. He'll workout at his pro day.

- He want to play SS in the pros.

- His toughest competition was Pittsburgh WR Larry Fitzgerald.


Will Allen / S / Ohio St.

- He feels that the Senior Bowl practices helped him get ready for the NFL style practices. He also liked the competition during the week.

- He will not work out here because of the shoulder injury that he suffered during the Senior Bowl game.

- He has interviews set up with New Orleans and Atlanta. He feels the Saints have shown strong interest in him.

- He said teams are looking at playing him at either SS or FS but he doesn't have a preference.


Chris Gamble / CB / Ohio St.

- He will not workout here but he will at his pro day.

- Although he can play at WR, he feels he that is better off at playing CB. He also feels that he can be a special teams returner at the next level and that should help him when teams consider drafting him.

- He confirmed that he has talked to Seattle and Cleveland so far.

- When we asked him who the best WR that he faced in his collegiate career, Gamble said it was Michigan's Braylon Edwards.

- The only injury of note that he said he suffered was a bruised should earlier this past season but he said the shoulder is fine.

- He said he believes he can run a 4.36-40 and his last 40-time that he ran was a 4.40.


Jeremy LeSueur / CB / Michigan

- He will workout fully here.

- His goal is to run in the 4.4's.

- His toughest competition to go up against were WRs Mike Williams (USC) and Michigan's Braylon Edwards.


Rich Gardner / CB / Penn St.

- He will workout fully here.

- He has talked to the New York Giants, Oakland, and Kansas City so far.


Dunta Robinson
/ CB / South Carolina

- He will workout fully here.

- His toughest competition was LSU WR Devery Henderson.

- He has met with Miami, Indianapolis, New England so far.


Ricardo Colclough / CB / Tusculum

- He will workout fully here.

- His toughest competition was Ohio St. WR Michael Jenkins who he covered during Senior Bowl week.


Keith Smith / CB / McNeese St.

- He will workout fully here.

- His goal is to run in the low 4.4's.

- His toughest competition was LSU WR Devery Henderson, New York Jets WR Santana Moss (Miami-Fla.), and Indianapolis Colts WR Reggie Wayne (Miami-Fla.).

- He has met with Cleveland, Jacksonville, Cincinnati, and Carolina so far.


Stuart Schweigert / S / Purdue

- He will workout fully here.

- Michigan WR Braylon Edwards and former Michigan St. WR Charles Rogers were his toughest competition.

- He has talked to the New York Jets, Houston, Cincinnati, Miami, New England, and San Francisco so far.


Sean Taylor / S / Miami-Fla.

- He will not work out here but he will on his pro day.

- He has no preference at playing FS or SS.


Jason Shivers / S / Arizona St.

- He will workout fully here.

- He expects to run in the 4.4's.

- He can play either FS or SS.


Sean Jones / S / Georgia

- He will workout fully here.

- Florida TE Ben Troupe has been his toughest opponent.

- He expects to run a 4.4.

- He has talked to the New York Jets, Baltimore, Green Bay, and Carolina.


Matt Ware / CB / UCLA

- He will workout fully here.

- He is willing to play at S in the Pros and the teams that he has talked to have given him the indication that they want him to play there.

- He thinks he will run in the mid 4.4's.


Will Poole / CB / USC


- He said he won't run here because he hasn't had a chance to train since getting hurt during Senior Bowl week. He originally had a nerve problem in his foot during the Rose Bowl game and was re-injured during practice during Senior Bowl week. He is back to full speed now but isn't ready to run here. He will workout at his pro day.

- He has met with Indianapolis and Buffalo so far.

- His toughest competition were teammates WRs Keary Colbert and Mike Williams and Washington St. WR Devard Darling.


Karlos Dansby / LB / Auburn

- He had the flu during Senior Bowl week so he didn't participate then.

- Teammate RB Cadillac Williams was the toughest player that he had to tackle.

- He won't workout here. He hopes to run a 4.5 at his pro day.

- His goal is to play at 250 at the next level.

- He is willing to play at WLB or SLB if asked to. He feels that SLB is his best position.


Caleb Miller / LB / Arkansas

- He plans on working out fully here pending his sore hamstring which he tweaked last week.

- Former Tennessee RB Travis Henry and Auburn RB Cadillac Williams were the toughest players to tackle over his career.

- Some teams are interested in him at playing SS.

- He feels that he can play inside or outside LB at the next level.


Michael Boulware / LB / Florida St.

- He will only do the shuttle run and position drills here. He will workout fully at his pro day.

- He feels that he would be best used at WLB.

- His goal is to play at 230 at the next level and if he runs a 4.4 at his pro day he'll be a top-ten pick.

- Interestingly, he said the best player he went up against was Florida TE Ben Troupe--not Miami-Fla. TE Kellen Winslow. He added Winslow is better at getting down field but Troupe is more physical and more athletic.


John Vilma / LB / Miami-Fla.

- Won't workout here but he will at his pro day.

- Said he only weighed 215 in his junior season.

- Has 10 interviews scheduled here.

- Plans to play at MLB at the next level and what he played in at school. However some teams believe that he'll play outside at the next level.

- He said the toughest RB that he played against in his collegiate career was easily Florida St. RB Greg Jones.

- Clearly knows the solid history of former Miami LBs who played at the next level and he mentioned several of them.


DeAngelo Hall / CB / Virginia Tech

- Will not workout here. He will at his pro day on 3/18.

- He said he has run a 4.15-40 in the past and believes he can do it again.

- Believes that Larry Fitzgerald is the best WR that he has gone up against. Former Miami-Fla. WR Andre Johnson gave him the most trouble.

- He believes that Chris Gamble (Ohio St.) and himself are the best CBs in the draft.

- Met with Dallas, Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, Houston, and Washington so far.


Daryl Smith / LB / Georgia Tech

- Will only lift here but will workout fully at his pro day on 3/19.

- Confirmed that he has been training with former NFL WR Cris Carter.

- Has talked to Arizona, Jacksonville, and Baltimore so far.


D.J. Williams / LB / Miami-Fla.

- He will not workout here but will at his pro day.

- 4.47 is his best 40-time.

- Was recruited as a RB.

- Has meetings with nine teams this evening.

- Feels that he can play inside or outside at LB at the next level.


Courtney Watson / LB / Notre Dame

- Confirmed that he will participate in everything here.

- Prefers playing at WLB.

- He is more than happy to play on special teams at the next level.

- Has met with Detroit and Jacksonville so far.

Vince Wilfork / DT / Miami-Fla.

- Lost both parents in 2002. He wears a medallion hanging over his neck with a picture of both parents.

- Former Miami DT Cortez Kennedy has spoken to him several times over the past few seasons. Wilfork said Kennedy is at their home games on the sidelines talking to him and getting on him to bring up his level of play.

- He confirmed he had 36 reps at 225 lbs.


Keyaron Fox / LB / Georgia Tech

- Will lift here but he won't do anything else.

- Said Florida St. RB Greg Jones was his toughest competitor to go up against because he's big and strong and hard to tackle.

- He said that some of the teams that he has talked to want him to bulk up.


Teddy Lehman / LB / Oklahoma

- Will do everything here.

- Said the Senior Bowl week was a great experience because he was able to work with pro coaches. He added that Florida St. RB Greg Jones was the toughest to tackle/bring down that week because of his size.

- He said former teammate S Roy Williams was the best player he played with in his collegiate career because he "never missed a tackle or took a play off."

- Confirmed that he has talked to plenty of teams since he arrived here including Oakland, New York Jets, New York Giants, Baltimore, and Tennessee.


Dontarrious Thomas / LB / Auburn

- Said he can play inside or outside at LB at the next level.

- Mississippi QB Eli Manning and Arkansas OL Shawn Andrews were his toughest competition in his collegiate career.


New York Giants Head Coach Tom Coughlin

- He will meet with his team as a group for the first time on 3/22 which is the beginning of their offseason workout program.

- So far Coughlin has had his assistant coaches contact the players.

- When asked about the status of WR Tim Carter, who suffered three concussions last season, Coughlin said he still needs to prove he can play without doing further damage to himself and they'll look at different helmets that could possibly prevent him from suffering more concussions. Carter is certainly a question mark at this point.

- When asked about RB Tiki Barber, he praised him but he said he must take better care of the ball. Coughlin added that he feels that they can help Barber in that area.

- Regarding Iowa OL Robert Gallery, Coughlin said he had "an outstanding workout." He would not elaborate further on Gallery but when Coughlin asked about how they plan to use their first-round pick, he said they would address their areas of need. One would think that their offensive line would be a major area of need.
