Scouting Report: B.J. Johnson

Scouting Report: B.J. Johnson

Name: B.J. Johnson School Texas Year 4Sr
Ht: 5-11.5 Wt: 207 40: 4.48 Pos: WR

Bio: Three year starter awarded All Conference honors in the past. Finished second on the team in receiving as a senior posting 30/459/4 after 40/603/5 the prior season and 41/539/4 as a sophomore, when he averaged 44.3 yards on his 4 touchdown catches.

Pos: Elusive, sure-handed receiver with outstanding field awareness. Quickly gets off the line, runs sharp routes and separate from defenders. Looks the pass into his hands, stays focused and nicely times receptions. Comes back to the ball working to make himself an available target then adjusts to the errant ball. Gets down to scoop up low pass or reaches backwards to pull the ball from the air. Settles into the open spot on the field, shields opponents from the action with his frame and consistently makes the reception.

Neg: A bit timid and goes down easily in traffic after the catch. Lacks the second gear or deep acceleration. Stands to improve his blocking.

Analysis: A solid athlete who offers a lot of natural skills, Johnson is a competitive prospect that works hard on and off the field. Not a spectacular or flashy receiver but one that could flourish in the NFL as a team's third wide out.
