Green's Sudden and Striking Move
Releasing the veteran may be surprising to some because Green named him one of his offensive starters on the final day of their last June mini-camp. However, injuries played into the equation when considering Kendall has not played a full season in any of his three seasons with the Cardinals due to neck, shoulder, ankle, and foot injuries.
Last season, Kendall was a non-factor for the Cardinals after suffering a separated shoulder in week 13 against the San Francisco 49ers.
Kendall passed a team physical and was reportedly in tremendous physical condition heading into training camp after being named the team's starting center.
According to league sources, Kendall was shocked upon learning of his release, which the player did not see coming. League and team sources confirm to The Insiders that some within the Cardinals' organization believe Kendall was just one of as many 18 players that reported to the NFLPA that head coach Dennis Green ran OTA (Organized Training Activities) practices that were "just as hard as normal practices with pads on".
Upon reviewing the complaint, the NFL made the Cardinals forfeit their final week of workouts last month.
With Kendall gone, rookie offensive lineman Alex Stepanovich takes over at center. Stepanovich, moved to guard during his final season at Ohio State University, but he played better at center in previous seasons. If Stepanovich struggles in camp, the only other alternative is to give veteran center Frank Garcia a shot to play.
