Prospect Profile: Mike Montgomery
Ht: 6-5 Wt: 276 40: 5.07 Year: 4Sr
Bio: First-team All-Conference selection as a senior when he posted 71/12/6. Recorded 45/ 7/1 as a junior in ten games.
Positives: Hard-working prospect with marginal size/speed numbers. Plays with excellent lean, gets leverage on opponents and adjusts off the initial block, staying on his feet, then getting to the action. Quick locating the ball, moves well laterally and has a burst of speed. Keeps driving up the field, fights to make positive plays and shows a solid inside move, wedging between blocks. Some ability in space.
Negatives: Lacks the great first step off the snap, and does not have a sustained burst of speed. Marginal strength at the point and slow shedding blocks. Arrived at Texas A&M with a heart ailment which required surgery.
Analysis: A stout run defender but marginal pass rusher, Montgomery has possibilities at defensive tackle or left end. Must first get a clean bill of health and display reasonable athleticism prior to the draft.
