Prospect Profile: Will Matthews
Ht: 6-1 Wt: 248 40: 5.01 Year: 5Sr
Bio: Became a full-time starter as a senior, posting 38/161/1 on the ground, while adding eight receptions and another score. Saw significant action as a junior posting 38/161/1 carrying the ball in two starts.
Positives: King-sized lead fullback powerful at the point of attack. Aggressive, strong and turns opponents off the ball, then seals holes for the running back. Patient, stays with the action and gets good chips on defenders or engulfs them altogether. Squares into opponents, nasty and a solid short-yardage runner.
Negatives: Not quick out of his stance into blocks. Lacks adjustment and best in a straight line. Marginal skills handling the ball.
Analysis: A lead blocker in the traditional mold, Matthews could be an effective backup placed on the field during short yardage or goal-line situations. Must learn to play consistently at a high level, yet has better than average size as a lead blocker.
