Miami gets the Wright Stuff
Manuel Wright

Posted Jul 14, 2005

After high expectations, the supplemental draft ended in a bit of a fizzle today as only one player was selected during the seven-round event. And even with that, defensive tackle Manuel Wright was chosen much later than many had predicted.

The Miami Dolphins used a fifth-round selection on former USC sophomore Manuel Wright and as a result will surrender their choice during the fifth frame of the '06 draft.

Miami went heavy on the defensive side of the ball in April's draft, selecting linemen Matt Roth of Iowa in the second round and Kevin Vickerson of Michigan State in the last frame, as well as junior linebacker Channing Crowder from Florida and LSU cornerback Travis Daniels in the middle frames.

There was much hype surrounding the physically gifted Wright, who left the Trojans program after being declared academically ineligible for the upcoming campaign.  And while many thought the big defensive tackle could be chosen as high as the second round, as we reported on Wednesday, character issues and questions surrounding his work ethic pushed Wright into the middle frames.

We will update this story as more comes in, specifically targeting what teams the remaining supplemental players end up signing with.
