'06 NFL Draft Watch: West Virginia
West Virginia Mountaineers

Posted Jul 26, 2005

After playing in a New Year's Day bowl game last year then losing a tremendous amount of talent from both sides the ball to the NFL, expectations are not high for the Mountaineers this season. And while there is solid NFL talent on the roster, it is unlikely any West Virginia player is selected in the draft's first day.

The team offers several offensive line prospects including senior tackles Garin Justice and Travis Garrett.  Both possess outstanding size and abilities run blocking, yet each is best in a limited area and offer marginal upside for the next level.  Underclassman Dan Mozes and Jeremy Sheffey are a pair of guards to keep an eye on.  Tight end Josh Bailey is a complete player at his position yet does not stand out in any single aspect and likely sits as a number three tight end at the next level.

Defensive lineman Ernest Hunter displays flashes of ability, offering size and growth potential. A possible two-gap lineman, Hunter could be the first Mountaineer drafted in ’06 if he comes through with a big senior campaign.  A trio of prospects reside in the defensive secondary.  Cornerback Alton McCann is a nice sized cover man who flashes skill on occasion.  Moving into a full-time starting position, he stands to gain from a good senior campaign.  Safety Jahmile Addae is a hard hitting defender who looks best suited for a zone system.  Mike Lorello is another safety best in the box.
