Scouting the ACC: Duke
Offensively the Blue Devils
have a pair of tight ends to keep an eye on.
Senior Andy Roland is a solid position blocker who possesses
natural receiving skills. Fluid
releasing off the one of scrimmage, he quickly gets into routes and flashes the
ability to make plays in the defensive secondary.
Possessing only marginal strength, Roland has limited size and growth
potential. Junior Ben Patrick
is larger than his teammate and has the well-rounded game.
A solid pass catcher in the short field, Patrick is strong and turns
defenders off the line, playing hard until the whistle blows.
More of a second tight end at the next level, he has potential in the
middle frames in 2007.
The defense welcomes back Phillip Alexander, a pass rusher who sat on the sidelines last year with an injury.
Fast off the edge, Alexander is likely an undrafted free agent, yet could
catch on as a pass-rush specialist with potential as a linebacker in a 34
defense.
