'06 NFL Draft Watch: Ohio

Posted Sep 5, 2005

Frank Solich makes his return to college football in an effort to lead the Ohio Bobcats to a winning program. The team's top NFL prospects lay in the defensive secondary.

Scouting the MAC: Ohio

A pair of cornerbacks bear watching starting with senior Deion Byrum. Possessing a good burst of speed Byrum is a strong cover man effective in zone. Preferring to side shuffle rather then backpedal, he lacks awareness and wherewithal on the field. Byrum is a free agent pick-up who could be an inexpensive dime back and special teams player at the next level. Junior T. J. Wright offers plenty of upside for the next level. Quick transitioning to run with opponents, Wright easily stays with receivers down field, offering blanket coverage. Quickly reading receivers eyes and getting his head back around to make a play on the ball, he contorts in midair to defend the throw. Not a physical defender, Wright gives marginal effort in run support and has size limitations. Senior punter Matt Miller will get NFL consideration with a good campaign.

Ohio Prospect List

Name Pos Yr #
Dion Byrum CB 5Sr 15
Matt Miller P 5Sr 14
T.J. Wright CB 4Jr 3
