Scouting the M-West: San Diego State
A pair of senior receivers have a chance to sneak into the late rounds. Jeff Webb is a nice sized pass catcher with soft hands and the ability to snatch
the ball from the air. Using his frame to shield away opponents, Webb gets
vertical and adjusts to the errant throw. More a long strider lacking quickness,
Webb rounds off routes and does not display the ability to run away from
defenders. He looks like a fourth receiver at the next level. Teammate Robert Ortiz plays a little faster (though he times slower) and makes the reception
in stride, adjusting downwards to scoop up the low pass. Displaying a sense of
timing as well as eye\hand coordination, he also has adequate size and could
catch on as a fifth pass catcher for an NFL team. The program welcomes the
return of running back Lynell Hamilton who sat out last season with a badly
broken ankle after rushing for more than a 1000-yards as a true freshman.
Safety Marcus Demps is a technically sound defensive back best facing
the play.
Struggling in man-to-man
coverage, Demps offers solid size for centerfield.
