Washington Redskins
The Skins came into the draft’s first day with just a single pick and
Washington was expecting little impact. Roger McIntosh, taken a little
early in round two, has the physical tools to start in the NFL if he
remains healthy and learns an NFL playbook. Both big "ifs". Injuries
have also been a concern for Anthony Montgomery, a pocket pusher on the
defensive line who could also be tried at offensive tackle. He was worth the
risk of a fifth round selection. Kedric Golston offers rotational
possibilities up front while Kevin Simon can also play in the NFL if he
gets back to the level he was at before the devastating knee injury of 2004.
Both were solid choices and the Skins deserve credit for taking a chance on
Simon.
The Redskins wanted McIntosh a great and gave away a sixth round pick in this
year’s draft and a choice in the second frame during the ’07 draft to move
up almost twenty slots. While we may disagree on the player selected, with a
year’s playing experience in the league, McIntosh is more valuable now then
the possibility of an unknown prospect in twelve months.
