Reviewing the draft: Atlanta Falcons

Grading the Falcons draft

Atlanta Falcons

Atlanta's draft started several weeks prior to the main event with a three-team trade. Moving down from the middle of round one to the late part of that frame, the Falcons collected several middle round choices. They then parlayed the 29th pick of the draft for New York Jets defensive end John Abraham who they signed him to a long term deal. Considering no player at the 29th pick has the talent of Abraham, that was a steal in itself. We reported the week before the draft Jimmy Williams had been slipping after terrible interviews and what was perceived as a poor attitude. He could be one of the draft's biggest bargains if he plays to his capabilities. Jerious Norwood could make TJ Duckett expendable and was good value in the middle of round three. Don't be surprised if the team gives him reps at wide receiver.

The Falcons gave away a pick late in round three in order to move up ten slots in round two and select Jimmy Williams. Considering Williams' potential it was worth it.
