Tulane Green Wave
Mewelde Moore
took many by surprise last season as he was one of the nations most prolific
running back, compiling 1400+ yards on the ground. Moore is an athletic ball
carrier with terrific vision, balance and skills to take it on the inside
between tackle. Heady, he sets up and follows his blocks displaying the ability
to quickly cut it back in a small area. How does he translate to the next level
right now? In a nutshell we have concerns. Moore is not big enough to be an
every-down interior runner nor does he have the speed to take it around tackle.
One thing he has going for him are his hands, which are as good as most
receivers. Another huge season and the talk will be of Moore leaving college for
the draft but on face value that would be a mistake. One underclassman we feel
has a great future is receiver Roydell Williams, a tall pass catcher that
takes it deep and makes the difficult catch with regularity. If he takes his
game to the next level as a junior he will be highly ranked going into the ’04
draft, assuming he stays at Tulane. Yet another junior on the radar screen as
UCLA transfer JP Losman who now takes the reigns behind center. Losman, a
passer with a live arm, has sporadically seen action the past two years and
looked good but now must prove he can handle the fulltime duties as a signal
caller.
Defensively senior safety Adrian Mitchell is a
hard-hitting run defender with deficiencies in pass defense. Junior Lynaris
Elpheage has displayed cover skills on occasion and is one to watch.
