NFL Draft '07: Scouting Virginia Tech

Truly one of the most consistent programs in college football of the past decade, Virginia Tech will once again be in the running for a BCS invitation next January. The strength of the team lies on defense as well as the receiver position where NFL-scouts are eyeing more then a handful of prospects.

Four receivers are presently considered NFL material with one coming from the senior class.  David Clowney is not real big or very fast rather a reliable pass catcher who consistently makes positive plays.  Clowney displays an excellent sense of timing and possesses soft hands.  He also gets the job done blocking and will be a solid middle round choice next April.  Junior Josh Morgan is a solid combination of size and speed.  Showing flashes of ability, he offers terrific upside and a breakout season will elevate his draft ranking significantly.  Eddie Royal is a smallish yet quick footed wide out effective running after the reception and producing as a return specialist.  Josh Hyman is consistent and a prospect who could eventually find his way onto an NFL roster as a fifth wide out.

The Virginia Tech defense is strong from start to finish and offers several good prospects.  Senior Noland Burchette displays speed off the edge as a pass rusher and is a solid athlete that can be dropped off the line on zone blitzes.  Undersized, Burchette is handled by a single blocker and will get consideration as a rush linebacker in a thirty-four defense.  Junior Vince Hall is an underrated player and a prospect with potential at several linebacker spots.  Quickly filling gaps up the field in run defense, Hall displays good instincts and is effective in coverage.  He projects as both a weak side linebacker in a conventional defense or on the inside for thirty-four alignment.  Xavier Adibi is another forceful linebacker from the junior class.  Displaying a burst of closing speed Adibi makes plays sideline to sideline and offers excellent size.  Senior Aaron Rouse is one of the better free safeties in the nation.  Displaying top instincts Rouse shows solid ball skills and is a willing volunteer in run support.  Already a first day prospect Rouse could move into the draft's initial forty five selections should he show well in events such as the Senior Bowl.
