Indiana Hoosiers
Indiana has a pair of offensive tackles that could get late round
consideration. Weak-side protector Enoch Demar is an athletic, quick and
fundamentally a sound lineman. Effective with his hands, he blocks with leverage
and works hard to finish off opponents. Demar is adequate but by no means
dominant blocking for either the pass or run. He has some size potential and may
eventually be pushed inside to guard. Line-mate AC Myler is bigger,
stronger and much more of a force blocking for the run but is a limited athlete,
restricted to confined quarters, which will push him into the very late rounds.
For the purposes of pre-season scouting we’ve included Jerami Johnson
with the Hooisers, though at posting it looks as though he’s on his way to
Western Kentucky. First catching our eye during his sophomore campaign, Johnson
is a prospect that has first round physical skills but a free agent approach to
the game. He is big, (at times too big) powerful but also very athletic and
nimble for a 270-pound ball carrier/blocker. In the past he’s displayed the
ability to open the middle of the field as a lead fullback, get outside around
tackle to create space in front of his running back while also handling the
duties as a sometimes feature runner. Johnson’s hands out of the backfield are
also better than average but he has a tendency to get overweight, take downs
off and is not nearly as dominant or as consistent as he should be. All things
considered one would be justified to label him as an underachiever to this
point. As to why he was dismissed then left the IU program? Well the stories
vary. Bottom line for Johnson; unless he quickly alters his ways he could be
left out of the seven rounds in next April’s draft.
Strong safety Joe Gonzalez is a hard-hitting run defender that likes
to throw his body around the field but is not good enough against the pass to
warrant anything more than free agent consideration.
