Catching up with Chrebet: At our Jets site, Randy Lange tosses a
few questions at former wide receiver Wayne Chrebet who was away from pro
football for the first time this year since 1995. Scout.com
subscribers can find out how Chrebet is doing since retiring following
another concussion in 2005 and what he's been up to as of late.
Throwing for glory: Guess which NFL quarterback had more 4th quarter
passes than any other this season? I'll give you the answer near the end of
today's NFL Blog. Think it over...
Seven possibilities: At our Kansas City site, Mike Nugent takes a quick
look at the team's seven unrestricted free agents, including both of their
starting defensive tackles. Scout.com
subscribers can get an insider's perspective on all seven to help you decide
if your favorite team should pursue any of them during the offseason.
Nowhere to run: Out of the NFL running backs who had at least 200
carries this season, here are the top five who got stuffed at or behind the line
of scrimmage with a higher percentage of frequency than any others this
year: Ahman Green (Packers), Steven Jackson (Rams), Tatum Bell (Broncos),
Brian Westbrook (Eagles) and Reuben Droughns (Browns).

He's a bruiser: At our Lions site, Nate Caminata takes a look at
unrestricted free agent fullback Cory Schesinger, a veteran who has been an icon
to Detroit fans over the years. "It was 'Sledge', the bruising, veteran fullback that
opened up the last hole that Barry Sanders would run through; the same
blue-collar workhorse that broke so many of his own face-masks that the
organization began tracking the growing number in 2001," he says. Scout.com
subscribers can find out whether or not Detroit's likely to make a move to
re-sign Schlesinger in this feature.
Still getting it done: He may be 33 years old, but that's not slowing
him down. Miami linebacker Zach Thomas led the NFL with 165 tackles, a
career-best for the 11-year veteran. He finished with nine more tackles than
Defensive Rookie of the Year DeMeco Ryans, who is just 22 years old. Buffalo's
London Fletcher finished third with 146 tackles.
A weighty issue: Alain Poupart provides his insight on offensive guard Toniu
Fonoti in his "Re-sign or
Release" feature for Scout.com subscribers. "Fonoti is an
interesting player because there's obviously some talent there considering he's
a former second-round pick of the San Diego Chargers and he started 14 games as
a rookie in 2002 and 16 games in 2004," he says. "The issue with
Fonoti has always been his weight. He was listed on the Dolphins roster last
year at 350 pounds, and that has affected his quickness as well as his ability
to stay healthy." Get the full story on Fonoti and whether he's likely to
return to Miami or sign on with a new team through the link above.
Quotable: "Last year, it was like the perfect season. We had the
perfect scenario. We had all the first-round byes, the best record in the NFL,
and it didn’t work out. We took the long route this year, and we learned how
to fight. When we got down early in this game – on the first play of the game
– we knew we had the ability to fight back regardless of what the score looked
like." -- Colts offensive tackle Tarik Glenn talking about the Super Bowl.

Top tight ends: At our Vikings site, Tim Yotter takes a look at the top
tight ends who should be available through free agency, like Indianapolis' Ben
Utecht. "With the Colts reportedly in one of the worst cap situations in
the league and needing to dish out the dough to defensive end Dwight Freeney,
Utecht will be restricted, but he is a tight end that teams might look at
hard," he says. "He had a breakout season in 2006, catching 37 passes
for 377 yards in his third NFL season." Scout.com
subscribers can read his analysis here.
Today's Birthday Bunch: Rams TE Dominique Byrd (23), Steelers P
Chris Gardocki (37), former Chargers kicker Rolf Benirschke (52), former Falcons
center Jeff Van Note (61)
Want the scoop... on the current roster situation in Carolina? Our Panthers
site has this to say about the team's linebacking corps: "Expect nearly
wholesale changes to this unit in the off-season with [Thomas] Davis and [James]
Anderson the only players who are guaranteed to return. [MLB Dan] Morgan has
been cleared to play next season, but is coming off his fifth concussion and is
due a $2 million signing bonus in April. Don't look for him to get that." Scout.com
subscribers can find out which players could be released in Carolina and
available as free agents for their favorite team.
The answer: So did you figure out who threw more fourth-quarter TD
passes this year than anyone else? Let's find out. If you picked the Bengals'
Carson Palmer, you nailed it. He threw ten of them this year, two more than the
second-place finisher, the Rams' Marc Bulger.
