Western Oregon's Kevin Boss was the only tight end invited to attend
a recent large gathering of NFL prospects at the New York Giants facility. He
joined players from across the country such as USC wide receiver Dwayne Jarrett,
Ohio State wide receiver Ted Ginn, Jr., Miami linebacker Jon Beason and Florida
State linebacker Lawrence Timmons as the Giants coaches and scouts hosted
roughly a dozen to 15 players simultaneously according to Boss' estimate.
As the only tight end prospect in the group, the 6-foot-6, 256-pound Boss
had the undivided attention of Mike Pope, New York's tight ends coach who had
traveled out to Western Oregon to work him out. And the two appear to have
developed a great relationship. That's good news for Boss, as Pope is respected
as one of the best in the business at evaluating and training tight end talent.
"I've learned a lot about football from him, so it's been great getting
to know him," Boss said. "Whenever I'm with him, I just try to soak up
everything from him."
During the six-minute audio that's available through the link below, you'll
hear Kevin walk you through what the visit was like from the time he landed in
Newark, including a dinner the night before his visit and the results of a very important physical
since he had been recovering from a shoulder injury that cut his senior season
short at the end of October. And he'll tell you about his film session with Coach Pope
and his thoughts on possibly getting the chance to work with Jeremy Shockey--a
player whose personality couldn't be more opposite than Kevin's.
