Scouting the Sun Belt: SW-Louisiana
Rajin Cajun
Rajin Cajun

Still feeling their oats in Division I-A football, the talent on the Rajin Cajun roster is slowly getting better. The best prospect could be a junior, though he needs a lot of development.

Louisiana Lafayette Rajin Cajuns

Quarterback Jon Van Cleave has terrific size, stature and a big league arm on his shoulder. Standing strong in the pocket, Van Cleave displays the ability to get the pass-off with opponents draped on him and zips the outs or drives the ball downfield, placing throws in front of his targets and letting them run to the ball. He needs a lot of work on his technique, footwork specifically. Amongst other things, Van Cleave never sets his feet in the pocket and releases the ball off his backfoot, tending to stare down his primary target. The underlying skills are available to develop Van Cleave if one can iron out the details of his position. Jerome Coleman is a solid collegiate runner best on the inside but lacks quickness, speed and strength for the next level.
