While the Seahawks prepared for their second preseason game this week,
versatile running back Marquis Weeks shared what he saw from his perspective
while scoring the final touchdown of the night against the San Diego Chargers in
Seattle's preseason opener.
"It was a blast play, and all night -- if you keep hitting the hole a
certain way -- you can kind of set the linebackers off and get them moving that
way," he explained during a Scout Radio interview this week. "So I hit
the hole towards the play-side gap and when I saw that the linebacker reacted by
moving that way just a little bit, I cut it back and my fullback did a great job
of opening the hole for me. And there it was."
Weeks finished the night as the team leader in rushing with five runs for 37
yards, including a 21-yard effort.
"That run was on a play that we usually use for play-action, and this
time we ran the ball," he said. "I hit the hole, ran into a
couple of people and just kept my feet moving. I ended up spinning out and
picked up some more yardage."
While the third-year player continues to show what he can do as a running
back, he's also competing with a talented group of players for a spot as a
kickoff returns specialist.
"Coach DeHaven has a good rotation going on, he's got a lot of guys to
see who's going to fill the role," Weeks said. "But there's going to
be two of us back there, so that makes things a little more interesting. I think
he'll give us all a fair shot, and then he'll decide who he wants back
there."
