Evans: No football in '02
Lee Evans

Posted Oct 21, 2002

Wisconsin wide receiver Lee Evans has reportedly been told by doctors his surgically repaired knee needs additional time to heal and as a result, he will not play football this season, head coach Barry Alvarez announced Monday during a team press conference.

Evans, the school's career receiving leader, has not stated publicly as to whether or not he will take a red-shirt season then return to Wisconsin next year or make himself eligible for the NFL draft next April.

TFY Analysis: We've felt all along playing would be a mistake and this is the best thing for Evans.  He can further enhance the situation by returning to Madison in 2003 and have a knockout senior campaign.  With the impending availability of four terrific underclassmen wide outs, coupled with the knee injury, Evans would have slipped mightily down draft boards and lost a lot of money.   A big season at Wisconsin in 2003 will quickly change that.
