Scout Second-Round Mock Draft

Delaware's Joe Flacco headlines Chris Steuber's second-round mock draft, which features many quality prospects. Teams selecting in the second round have an opportunity to identify plenty of need areas, especially the Falcons who are loaded with options and make a huge splash on day one.

The Rams are getting a little old at the WR position and have to replace Isaac Bruce with a player who can thrive in that offense. Mario Manningham is a deep threat who will compliment Torry Holt very well and will become a nice option for Marc Bulger.

The Falcons acquired this selection from the Raiders in the DeAngelo Hall trade, and they use this pick to select another former Virginia Tech standout, Brandon Flowers.
35		OT	Anthony Collins	Kansas	Jr.	6-5	317
The Chiefs shocked everyone by drafting Matt Ryan in the first round and add a tackle to protect him with this selection in Kansas' Anthony Collins.
36		WR	James Hardy	Indiana	Jr.	6-6	217
Adding a big play wide receiver is something the Jets desperately need. Laveranues Coles and Jerricho Cotchery are good possession receivers who have YAC ability. But James Hardy gives the Jets offense a big target who can stretch the field.
37		DT	Trevor Laws	Notre Dame	Sr.	6-1	304
The Falcons have been the most active team thus far and have upgraded their team tremendously. They continue to do so with the selection of Trevor Laws.
38		QB	Chad Henne	Michigan	Sr.	6-3	230
The Ravens passed on Brian Brohm in the first round and address their secondary with Cromartie. With this pick, they grab their future QB, Michigan's Chad Henne.
39		OLB	Dan Connor	Penn State	Sr.	6-3	231
The Niners have some options with this selection and may look to add Kentwan Balmer, but with Dan Connor still on the board, he has too much value to pass up.
40		DT	Kentwan Balmer	North Carolina	Sr.	6-5	308
The Saints continue to upgrade their defense in the draft. They added a savvy defensive player in Keith Rivers in the first round and get a solid D-Lineman with this pick in Kentwan Balmer.
41		CB	Reggie Smith	Oklahoma	Jr.	6-1	199
The Bills added a major offensive weapon with their first pick, and with their second selection, they have to get a cornerback. Reggie Smith is a versatile defensive back who fits nicely in the Bills secondary.
42		LB	Jerod Mayo	Tennessee	Jr.	6-1	242
The Broncos have to add depth on the defensive front, but Jerod Mayo is a tremendous talent who can start immediately at middle linebacker.
43		OT	Sam Baker	USC	Sr.	6-5	309
The Panthers upgraded their defensive line in the first round and will look to add depth on the offensive line. USC's Sam Baker is the choice.
44		QB	Andre Woodson	Kentucky	Sr.	6-4	229
Chicago is revamping its offense with the selection of Rashard Mendenhall in the first round and Andre Woodson with this pick.
45		RB	Jamaal Charles	Texas	Jr.	5-11	200
The release of Kevin Jones means that finding a starting RB is a priority. Jamaal Charles is an explosive runner with great ability and will be a welcome addition in Detroit.
46		MLB	Curtis Lofton	Oklahoma	Jr.	6-0	246
The Bengals have had bad luck with injuries at the linebacker position. But it's obvious they need a playmaker at the position. Curtis Lofton is as steady as any linebacker in this draft.
47		CB	Tracy Porter	Indiana	Sr.	5-11	188
The Vikings upgraded their defensive line in the first round and will upgrade their secondary and special teams with this selection. Indiana's Tracy Porter isn't physical, but he's a ballhawk with great versatility.
48		RB	Felix Jones	Arkansas	Jr.	5-10	207
****PROJECTED TRADE WITH ATLANTA****
When the Cowboys made the trade with Atlanta in the first round, they hoped that Felix Jones would be available at this selection. They guessed right; Jones is the pick.
49		FS	DaJuan Morgan	NC State	Jr.	6-0	205
The Eagles would love to add an OT with this selection, but most of the top guys are off the board. Adding a safety like DaJaun Morgan adds versatility to the secondary and becomes the replacement for Brian Dawkins when he retires.
50		RB	Chris Johnson	East Carolina	Sr.	5-11	197
The Cardinals got a playmaker on defense in the first round, and now they address their offensive needs with a young running back to build around in East Carolina’s Chris Johnson.
51		SS	Josh Barrett	Arizona State	Sr.	6-2	223
The Redskins mourned the loss of Sean Taylor this past season. But with this selection they select Josh Barrett, who has the physical gifts Taylor possessed.
52		CB	Justin King	Penn State	Jr.	5-11	192
The Bucs got their game-breaker on offense in the first round, and now they add a young cornerback with this pick in Penn State's Justin King.
53		OG	Chilo Rachal	USC	Jr.	6-5	315
The Steelers drafted Branden Albert in the first round and may switch him to tackle, and adding Chilo Rachal with this pick gives the Steelers two linemen to build around.
54		WR	Early Doucet	Michigan	Jr.	6-0	209
The Titans passed on drafting a WR in the first round to get a pass rusher, but with this pick they give Vince Young a player he can develop with, LSU's Early Doucet.
55		DT	Pat Sims	Auburn	Jr.	6-2	310
The Seahawks have good interior defensive linemen and used a third-round pick on Brandon Mebane last season. But the upside of Pat Sims is too much to pass up.
56	from Browns	TE	Martellus Bennett	Texas A&M	Jr.	6-6	259
The Packers have to find a replacement for Bubba Franks since they line up in a lot of two tight end sets. Martellus Bennett will play well along side Donald Lee.
57	from Chargers	TE	Fred Davis	USC	Sr.	6-3	255
The Dolphins will look to add depth on the offensive line, but with USC's Fred Davis on the board, Miami gets a solid TE who can start immediately.
58		WR	Andre Caldwell	Florida	Sr.	6-0	204
The Jaguars selected Calais Campbell in the first round and now look to add another weapon on offense with the selection of Andre Caldwell.
59		DE	Cliff Avril	Purdue	Sr.	6-3	253
In today's NFL, having two capable running backs is a must. The Colts have Joseph Addai, but depth is an issue. Indy could go for Matt Forte, but the pick will be between Xavier Adibi and Cliff Avril. Avril's speed and pass rushing ability fits well with the Colts.

The Packers have some aging veterans on their defensive front and will look to add some youth. USC's Lawrence Jackson is a nice fit with the Packers.
61		WR	Eddie Royal	Virginia Tech	Sr.	5-10	184
The Cowboys have done well in this draft and look to upgrade their offense even further in this round. They got Felix Jones with their first pick in this round and now get the speedy Eddie Royal as their slot receiver and return specialist.
62		OLB	Xavier Adibi	Virginia Tech	Sr.	6-2	232
The Patriots continue to add youth to their defense, but this time it's at linebacker with the addition of Xavier Adibi.
63		MLB	Erin Henderson	Maryland	Jr.	6-3	244
The Giants continue to upgrade their defense, this time by adding depth at linebacker by selecting Maryland's Erin Henderson.
