The Jaguars sent a loud and clear message to their fans and the rest of the AFC South as they announced their perceived presence as a contender when they traded their first-round pick, both their third-round picks, as well as their fourth-round pick to move all the way up to pick # 8 and selected former University of Florida defensive end, Derrick Harvey.
Derrick Harvey serves a primary need for the Jaguars as they hope he can be the explosive pass rusher that the team has been missing since defensive end Reggie Hayward went down with a ruptured Achilles tendon nearly two years ago. Harvey is long-limbed, explosive, and he has a very good work ethic. The Jaguars made the biggest splash of the draft up to this point, and they believe that it is their time to take over the AFC South from the Indianapolis Colts, who have won the division five consecutive seasons. - Charlie Bernstein, JagNation.com

Jacksonville was obviously desperate for pass rush help and they chose quite possibly the best pure edge rusher in the draft in Harvey. He'll come in and almost start right away or be no worse than their third end. While needs to refine some parts of his game and pass rush moves, he'll still be able to help Jacksonville's defense right away.
