Few College Fullbacks On NFL Front Boards

When evaluating a college fullback, keep in mind this critical factor; in most pro offensive systems, a fullback is on the field for less than 20% of the offensive snaps, thus negating their relative importance in today’s offensive systems. That being said, a good fullback can still fill a number of important roles on a football club.

Although their relative draft importance has been severely diminished over the last two decades, top fullback prospect role as a short yardage runner, lead blocker, pass protector, check down receiver, personal protector on punts and on all special teams.

Jorvorskie Lane of Texas A&M has all of the size and athletic potential one looks for at the position, but essentially has been a running back and one back in the Aggies offensive system until the 2008 season. He has been a very effective runner, particularly in the red zone, but if he is to make it, as a pure fullback, he will need to perform well in all of the above stated rolls.

Brannan Sutherland of Georgia is an unselfish battering ram that unquestionably makes the Bulldogs running game go. He is a double tough and although he is limited as a pure runner, he does a lot of thing to help you win football games.

Tyler Roehl, another "one" back, has vision, balance and like Lane was particularly effective in the Red Zone. Eric Kettani from the US Naval Academy is a muscular, strong, and tough inside runner.
