Scouting Report: DeMarco McNeil
DeMarco McNeil
DeMarco McNeil

Posted Dec 3, 2002

As a red-shirt freshman DeMarco McNeil was one of the most dominant lineman in the nation and looked like very much like the next version of Gerard Warren. But after suffering with a knee injury last season his play slipped. Still, he showed his grit playing through the pain and is considered by most as a top pro-prospect for the next level.

Full Name: DeMarco McNeil    School:  Auburn

Ht: 6-1     Wt: 308     40: 4.98

Year: 4Jr    Number: 92

Stats/ Bio:

2001: Finished the season with 33 tackles, four tackles for loss and 13 quarterback hurries.

2000: Freshman All-America selected to the All-SEC Freshman teams, starting 13 games and leading the team with 13 tackles for loss, five sacks, also recording 67 tackles.

Scouting Report:

The Good: Quick, explosive lineman that stuffs the run or rushes the passer.  Fires off the snap with a tremendous first step, plays low with leverage and displays great leg drive which he uses to bull rush opponents off the line of scrimmage.  Constantly focused on or doubled by opponents yet still gets a lot of upfield momentum going.  Agile, can twist or stunt and fluid changing direction, displaying the abilities to alter his angle of attack and make plays out to the flanks.  Holds his ground against blocks or slides off them altogether and rarely off his feet.  Keeps driving forwards and works to make something positive happen.  Plays while injured and suffered through the 2001 campaign with a bad knee injury, yet rarely missed time.

The Bad: Must do a better job protecting himself and using his hands to keep opponents off him.  Lacks the great height and size potential, which may turn teams off.

The Skinny:  A player we've liked for a while and would liken to former LSU Tiger Anthony McFarland, though we feel McNeil will be much more productive earlier in his NFL career.
